About the Artist
Background
I paint
full-time following a career with a creative
studio allied to the film and advertising
industry. This media work provided artistic
experience in specialised techniques and
creative paint applications that
supplemented traditional art school training
in London and Eastbourne.
About My
Work
I enjoy the creative freedom
of taking reality towards a more abstracted
vision in my paintings. Radiant, intense,
often contrasting but harmonized colours [‘colours
to stir the sensual depths of man’,
Matisse] and the
materiality of the paint are worked to
produce subjective interpretations of
nature.
I work on
block canvases or on board but also adopt
less conventional surface materials and
textural effects that provide a relief
element. Previously I have utilised the
multi-lathed surface of Sterling board, high
relief hand-made paper and the sculptured
trays of chocolate boxes (receiving two
awards).
My works have
been commissioned by the internationally
renowned classical music quartet
Phantasm to illustrate their CDs
released by Avie Records, 2006 & 2007.
Work In
Progress
A new series
of works is exploring the essence of
sunsets: changing colours,
fading luminosity, impending dusk, the
sensual experience of nature at its most
alluring. This is the theme of several works
in progress that will form a gallery
exhibition at one one six,
Tenterden, Kent, from
29 October to 7 December 2008.
